Import Permits

When and why

they are required

Among the product categories which require Import Permits before they are allowed to be entered into Canada are Agricultural and Dairy Products, Carbon Steel and Specialty Steel, some Textile and Apparel Products and a number of Miscellaneous Products such as Arms and Weapons.

Import Permits are necessary to control the movement of goods into Canada which are subject to import quota limitations or health and other restrictions.

Canadian Import Permits are presently administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT).

Shipments of animal products, plants, wood or meat require import authorization by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

Rules and Regulations are changing constantly.
